How to scan a QR code from a screenshot
- Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image, or paste a screenshot into the tool.
- Read the decoded text and, for web addresses, the host shown separately.
- Check the source of the request before taking any action. Use Clear to discard the working result.
For best results, crop around a single QR code without cutting off the white border. A large screenshot with a tiny code, heavy compression, glare, or a damaged code may not decode. This first version returns one QR code, not an inventory of every code in an image. It does not scan ordinary barcodes or use your camera.
What the decoder can—and cannot—tell you
A QR code can contain a web address, Wi-Fi credentials, contact information, or plain text. Reading that content is not a malware scan or a reputation check. Even a familiar-looking domain can be misleading, and a short link can redirect to a different destination.
We show the parsed host separately from the rest of a web address. Internationalized hosts appear in their ASCII form, and invisible control characters are escaped. These are inspection aids, not a guarantee. We deliberately do not provide a one-click “open” action.
If a code asks you to sign in, pay, or install something, verify the request using a known website, app, or contact—not the details supplied by the code itself. If you already acted on a suspicious request at work, follow your reporting process; our incident response checklist can help organize the response.
Does the image leave my device?
No. Image decoding runs in a short-lived browser worker using code served with this site. Images, filenames, and decoded content are not uploaded, put in a URL, logged by the tool, or saved in application storage. There are no advertising or analytics scripts on this page.
Clear cancels processing and discards the application’s working state. Reloading or leaving the page also clears it. This does not delete your original image, OS clipboard, browser-managed session data, screenshots, or copies you make. Loading the website still sends ordinary connection information to our host; see our privacy notice.
Why is my QR code not detected?

Try a sharper image with one complete code and its border. Images are reduced to at most 2,000 pixels on their longest side for bounded processing, so crop a small code out of a large screenshot first. PDF, SVG, GIF, and HEIC inputs are not supported. Local decoding requires a current browser with Web Workers and OffscreenCanvas support; there is no server-upload fallback.
